OICC Provides Support, Information and Assets Perfect for Busy Fall Hunting and Selling Seasons

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – September 17, 2024Outdoor Stewards of Conservation Foundation (OSCF) along with Wildlife Management Institute created the Outdoor Industry Communication Council (OICC) to form a coalition of state wildlife agencies, NGOs, media, industry brands, organizations and manufacturers. The OICC’s goal is to better inform people of the benefits of getting outdoors and participating in activities such as hunting, fishing, trapping and target shooting. HATS™ (Hunters, Anglers, Trappers and Shooters) contribute billions of dollars annually to land, fish and wildlife conservation. Funding from HATS makes up a large portion of state department of natural resources’ budgets and allows them to do all the terrific work they do, much of which supports hunting and shooting.

As hunters hit their favorite outdoor retailers in preparation for hunting season, it’s an important time to inform and engage them on a variety of topics. This importance is felt by a diverse group—including but not limited to sporting goods manufacturers, state agencies, conservation groups, mainstream media, hunting and shooting-specific publishers and popular personalities, influencers and online destinations.

“The time is now to reach those audiences we all depend on,” said executive director of Outdoor Stewards of Conservation Foundation Jim Curcuruto. “HATS do so much for conservation and improving all types of habitats —with a lot of that not connected to hunting, shooting or trapping at all—we need to spread those messages and grow our industry. The OICC provides great assets including social media graphics and content as well as relevant and recent studies for all to feature or supplement their communications efforts. A quick signup on our website opens the conservation and our team is standing by to support specific needs and requests.”

Outdoor Stewards of Conservation Foundation Presenting at NRA Range Development Conference

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. - July 24, 2024 - Outdoor Stewards of Conservation Foundation’s (OSCF) Executive Director, Jim Curcuruto, will be presenting at the NRA Range Development and Operations Conference in Denver, July 31 – August 1, 2024.

Held by the National Rifle Association, the conference is designed to educate potential and current range owners and operators in identifying issues and pitfalls associated with range development, environmental issues and safety. Attendees will receive a multidisciplinary perspective on major topics such as business planning, EPA lead standards, construction, sound abatement, ADA compliance, ventilation, funding and grants, NRA programs, training opportunities and much more.

Curcuruto will be presenting preliminary results from a current OSCF research project focusing on ‘Welcoming New Target Shooters’ to the world of recreational target shooting. Curcuruto notes, “past research we’ve conducted identified that more than 10 million American’s have purchased their first firearm over the past few years. Many of these new gun owners are not actively practicing or participating in recreational target shooting. This OSCF research provides key insights into how to best welcome new target shooters and make them want to go to the range more often.”

The goal of the Range Development & Operations Conference is to give attendees a forum to share their knowledge, and ensure the public has a safe and convenient place to shoot in order to exercise their Second Amendment rights. For more information on this conference and topic, contact NRA Range Services at range@nrahq.org or 877-NRA-RANGE.
