Everything You Need to Know About Fishing the 50 — The New Adventure Series from Murray Road and Carbon Media
Murray Road and Carbon Media have teamed up to launch Fishing the 50, a brand-new outdoor adventure series exploring fishing, culture, and conservation across all 50 U.S. states. In this exclusive Q&A, Murray Road’s Content Creations Manager Jake Dahlke, shares how the project began, where it’s headed, and why it’s a must-watch for anglers and outdoor storytellers alike.
Jonathan Harling (JH): What is Fishing the 50?
Jake Dahlke (JD): Fishing the 50 is an original, high-quality video series that sets out to fish in all 50 U.S. states. But it’s not just about catching fish — it’s about discovering the people, places, and stories that make each location unique. From big lakes and winding rivers to small-town communities and hidden gems, every stop on the journey offers something new.
JH: What makes this series different from other fishing shows?
JD: Fishing the 50 goes beyond the fish. In each episode, we dive into the local history, culture, and conservation efforts that define a region’s fishing identity. It’s about storytelling as much as it is about casting lines — showing what makes America’s waters, and the people who fish them, so special.
This new adventure with Fishing the 50 is another way for our teams to do what we do best together—we tell stories, seek adventure, chase the wild, and showcase the best products the outdoor industry has to offer.

JH: Where will the first episode take place?
JD: We kick things off in Manistee, Michigan, where the crew will chase salmon and trout on Lake Michigan. The episode will highlight both the world-class fishing and the conservation work that’s helped make the Great Lakes one of the best fisheries in the country.
JH: Who’s behind the production?
JD: The series is a collaboration between Murray Road Productions and Carbon Media. Both of our teams are deeply rooted in outdoor storytelling, so we thought it was the perfect fit.
Murray Road Productions will lead filming and creative direction, ensuring each episode captures the true character of the locations and people involved.
JH: How can viewers watch Fishing the 50?
JD: The first episode aired in June 2026 and can be seen on Carbon TV. Viewers can stream, follow the team’s progress, and keep up with behind-the-scenes stories and updates as the crew travels the country.

JH: Will there be opportunities for brands to get involved?
JD: Yes…absolutely! Murray Road is inviting outdoor brands to join the adventure as official partners. Collaborating on Fishing the 50 is a great way for companies to connect with anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. We’ve also let partners that they’ll receive access to professional photo and video assets — and may even have opportunities to feature their products, facilities, or teams in future episodes.
JH: What’s next for Fishing the 50?
JD: Now that we’ve launched the first episode from Michigan, there are more adventures already in the works across the Midwest, South, East Coast, and beyond. We recently wrapped filming in one of the most iconic fisheries in the world, Southeast Alaska. Expect awesome scenery, unforgettable stories, and plenty of fish along the way.
